The other morning I woke up next to two large pools of dog vomit next to my head. Poor Izzy had gotten sick in the middle of the night. I looked down on my pajamas and saw some of it was on me. Had I rolled in it, been vomited on or what? No matter, we immediately stripped the sheets and put them in the wash that morning. That night, I bathed Izzy. The fun and joy of parenthood continued the next 24 hours.
At 2:30 in the following morning, we woke up to see that Izzy had thrown up again (on our freshly washed sheets and blankets). We stripped the bed, put the dirty sheets in the wash, and put the spare sheets on the bed. Then the dogs whined. My husband took them outside. It took a while to fall asleep after that fun.
When I got home that night (exhausted), I tried to relax a bit. Then I heard something funny. It was Jaeger chewing on our $4,000 dining room table. I inspected the damage - quite visible but maybe no one would notice? I futilely hoped, so as not to get upset. Similarly, I tried not to get upset when a half hour later, Jaeger had chewed a hole in a pillow from Crate and Barrel. Then Jaeger bit me. Hard and long... Then he bit my husband an hour later. Hard. Then Izzy peed on my great grandmother's rug. Then Izzy pooed on the bed (yes, our bed that we sleep in). Then we stripped the sheets, put on the ones we had just cleaned, and then bathed Izzy (again).
Really, it's great to have dogs! So much fun! So much joy! If you want one of your own, I might be able to find one for you :)
