One little thread wrapped tightly around Baby B's middle toe almost did serious damage to my baby. Baby B was fussing, which is a bit unusual but not particularly startling either. I decided to give him a bath in hopes of distracting him and ending the fussiness. When I went to take off his clothes, I discovered a thread wrapped tightly around Baby B's toe. The tip of his toe was bright red and the thread left his skin indented after I removed it.
Jack recovered, although it did take a day or two for his toe to return completely to normal. I had read that you should regularly check your baby's body for things like a piece of thread wrapped around your baby, but it seemed so ridiculous, I never really followed that advice. Well, now I do, and since then I have discovered other threads/fuzzy things/hair wrapped around the toes of each of the boys.
LESSON: check your baby to make sure threads and other odd things haven't started a scheme to strangle any of your baby's body parts.
