We're Registered!

No - we're not registered for anything fun (e.g., as in a wedding or baby registry), just registered with the City of Frankfurt.  In Germany, you must register with the city (or cities) in which you reside, regardless of whether you intend to reside there permanently.  Now, the city knows where we live, our ages, dates of birth, wedding date, etc.  I don't think they asked for our blood type though.

My husband registered with the City of Frankfurt a few weeks before the whole family moved here, but the rest of us still needed to register.  What we didn't know (because we had not checked our mailbox), was that the City of Frankfurt had already "flagged" our family.  Why?  Well, not because of anything cool or exciting, but because my husband had previously registered as a single person...  about nine years ago! When he lived in Germany before (2003-2006), we weren't married, and the Germans were worried that he was pulling some kind of sham to illegally sneak me into the country.  As they noted, he is now married, but wasn't before, so they needed proof of this so called marriage that allegedly took place between 2006 - 2012 (I guess it's hard for the German authorities to believe that a 30-some year old male would get married during a six year period away from Germany - I wasn't convinced it would happen either).  In the letter we had not seen prior to registering the rest of the family, the Germany authorities  demanded an explanation.  I was going to include a copy of this letter, but then I realized that it's in German, not English.

Anyway, we were able to convince them we are legally married (even though our wedding license from Jamaica is full of typos and errors) and we (including Izzy and Jaeger) are now officially registered with the City of Frankfurt.

And, because my husband is working here, he had to get a work visa and the rest of us, because we will be here so long with my husband, will get guest visas.   Wow, I kind of feel like an immigrant!
