I am so nervous. This weekend we have the canine good citizen test. I think both dogs have a chance at passing, but they still have their work cut out for them.
Jaeger likes to jump on people - this will not result in a pass. He also HATES the grooming part. The grooming part of the test requires the dog to accept his/her paws being touched, ears being checked and coat being brushed. I am hoping that he won't jump on anyone and that between now and Sunday we can practice on the grooming.
Izzy should pass. The first class she did so well with staying - she was the best in the class. (Of course, my friend - who didn't have previous dog training experience - worked with her that day.) Now she won't stay. I think it's because she knows she'll get a treat and gets soooo excited about the prospect of a treat that she can't possibly stay put.
That's the other problem - we can't use treats during the test and Izzy and Jaeger, well, really just Izzy, doesn't just give away "tricks"... You've got to pay for them with treats.
At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter, and certainly not to Izzy and Jaeger, but it would definitely be a sense of accomplishment and validate our opinion that they are the best babies, I mean dogs (okay, not really), in the world.
