When I say "we", I mean my husband, the boys, Izzy, and Jaeger, along with our good friend, Matt. Many people commented on Izzy riding along on the stroller in front of the boys. I am sure that, as usual, we were quite the site.
Nuestadt-Haardt is a small town on the German wine route. For those of you who don't know, the wine industry in Germany is huge (Germany does make more than beer). And, the Germans don't just make the sweet Riesling you find in the U.S., but rather a selection of great (and dryer) wines, including reds. The boys weren't allowed to sample those wines, but they still enjoyed the festivities.
The wine festival also featured a big race where people load a full bucket of water on a vineyard grape cart, race up a mountain and back. The winner is the team with the best time that spilled the least water!
The day was beautiful, the wine was great, and the setting gorgeous.
The boys were very good and the puppies were, too.
To top it off, and just for fun, we went to France for dinner, specifically Wissembourg, France (just across the border). We had some great food and then a relatively short trip home (under two hours).
It was just the kind of adventure I had hoped we would have while living abroad, and the first of many, I hope!
