I jumped up and ran to the playroom where the boys were playing with their babysitter. Just as I was about to open the door, the sitter cried out my name. She sounded scared and the next thing I knew she was holding Will out to me, his face covered in blood.
Will was crying. I grabbed him, held him, and told him it would be okay. I think I was crying, too. I was horrified! What if this were a serious injury? What if I lost Will? We managed to call the doctor, bring up the carseats from storage, and get treatment.
Will had a few cuts on his head, just at the hairline on his forehead. I also discovered, to my horror, while wiping some of the blood away, that his eye lid was severely cut. The doctor glued the head cuts but said she couldn't do anything for the eye lid, other than tape it. She then sent us to the hospital.
We were in the hospital for two nights to make sure there were no brain bleeds or other effects from the fall.
"The fall." We don't know what happened. The sitter first said she thought Jaeger bit Will, but the cuts were not bite marks. And Jaeger would never intentionally hurt the boys. He is soooo tolerant of them. Later she said that Will may have been on the couch (with Jaeger) and may have fallen from the couch.
I suspect a toy was involved and his fall caused him to crash into a toy. The doctors could not figure out the cause for the bizarre marks on his face.
While I am obsessed with what caused it, sickened that anything could hurt my son, what really matters is that he appears to be just fine. At most, he will have a few scars.
I hope to share the hospital experience in another post - it was quite interesting being in a foreign hospital and not knowing the spoken language or how things are done.
For now, I just want to take this time to appreciate that Will is okay and I still have two healthy, happy, little boys. For that, I am truly thankful, every day.
Day of Injury - Day 1 at Hospital
My poor baby... This makes me sick seeing him like this.
Will kept disconnecting the monitoring wires. The nurses finally gave up. (He can't be the only baby to disconnect the wires, can he? Surely, there is a way to keep them in place?)
Release Day - Day 3 at Hospital
Looking good!
But also looking bored. Ready to break free!
On the way home! Yeh!
