Jack had his hernia surgery about a week and a half ago. The hernia was much larger than expected but the surgery went well and the recovery has also gone well. He (and I) spent one night in the hospital. I can't believe we have been in two German hospitals in our short stay here in Frankfurt.
Luckily, we had the room to ourselves, especially since it was a small room. We almost didn't have it to ourselves though - around 10pm, a nurse told me we would have to move around to make room for another possible patient. I was not happy about the possibility of Jack being woken up with having to move his crib, the cot, etc., not to mention move in the new patient and her parent, so I was so thankful they found another room for her and that Jack got to sleep in peace.
Strangely, the hospital does not provide baby formula. The sister hospital, where Will stayed, provided it so I was not prepared. The hospital does provide meals for family members - the meals aren't too bad, but it's still hospital food... I was also happy to hear English spoken at this hospital a bit more fluently than at the hospital where Will stayed. It's obviously hard to have a child in the hospital, and even harder when there are communication barriers and you don't know that the doctors and nurses have explained everything to you.
Anyway, Jack is still bruised and healing, but he is mostly back to himself. We are so thankful!
