We actually have less than three months before we leave Germany and return to the good ole U.S. of A. I have mixed feelings.
There is still so much I want to do here - I want to finish the Frankfurt walking tour, check out the art museum again, and maybe hit a few other art museums. I want to go wine tasting in the Mosel valley, maybe go back to Mainz (yes, again), and I still hope to make it to Wiesbaden, Limburg, Trier, and Rothenburg. Of course, it would be great to go to Berlin and Dresden, too. As it is, I am very happy that it looks like we will be going to Munich and the Black Forest.
And if we are able to get away again, I would LOVE to get back to Italy. There's just something about Italy... And if the airfare doesn't cooperate, Scotland, Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Spain would all be high on my list.
So, so much to do and so little time, especially with my husband's trial schedule...
But, oh to get back home.... to a larger washer and dryer (and a dryer that reliably works), a large dishwasher, a large master bathroom (or just a bathroom that is larger than a very small broom closet). And I am dying for the boys to have a real room in which to sleep and play and then a separate play room. And it will be so great if we don't have to worry so much about the boys being woken up since they would likely be upstairs in peace and quiet (not next to the front door).
And to be surrounded by English! This weekend, I heard American English being spoken and it was music to my ears. I wanted to run up to this person like he was my long lost brother and ask him where he was from and to just hear him say anything in his wonderful American English language. While I have picked up a few German words and phrases, I am generally surrounded by the hushed "noise"of a foreign language that I do not understand.
And food! Oh, I am dying for Chicago pizza, sandwiches, "American" sushi (rolls), Mexican food (even Taco Bell), and just the ability to get food fairly quickly at a restaurant from a friendly, talkative waitress... Just going through a grocery store surrounded my familiar brands and labels that I can read would be awesome!
Sigh... that will all be there, very soon. Until then, I want to take advantage of living abroad...
